Samuel Beckett

...was irish playwright and novelist. He could be a postmodernist or an Absurd Theatre artist, like Eugéne Ionesco.

Beckett was born in Dublin, his family was rich and Protestant. Samuel's father - William Beckett Jr. - worked as a surveyor. Mother's name was Mary Roe, she was a nurse before marriage. The future writer went to the Portora Royal School and Trinity College in Dublin, and got a B.A. (Bachelor's degree) in 1927. His specialiations were French and Italian. Then he teached in Belfast but later moved to France and teached English in the the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. There he met mr. James Joyce. During second World War beckett worked as a agricultural laborer, while writing "Watt" (published in 1953).
